L'Atelier Innowide

Resources for technical decision-makers

Articles, webinars and definitions for technical, R&D and innovation leaders steering uncertain deeptech projects. Articles and webinars are in French.

Our latest articles

In-depth analyses by Damien Cuoq, Innowide's founder, published in French on L'Atelier Innowide, our Substack publication, with a summary on this site.

Method

De la vision au prototype en deeptech

Structuring a project's first weeks to accelerate without scattering: the Vision → Risks → Prototype → Decision chain.

Ideas worth revisiting

Topics covered in our previous sessions. Participant feedback has been anonymised and lightly rephrased.

Evidence-led R&D · Recorded webinar

In deeptech, stop thinking deliverables. Think evidence.

Replace task tracking with critical assumptions, targeted experiments and decision gates grounded in factual evidence.

  • OKRs
  • Disposable prototypes
  • Evidence-based milestones

The approach is clear and highlights the daily discipline required to focus on the risks that truly determine the project's future.

Agile in deeptech: why the sprint is not enough

A two-level structure that combines short disciplinary sprints with system-level iterations to learn, decide, align and integrate.

  • Sprint and iteration
  • Monster Prototype
  • Integration

The framework gives teams concrete language for building test prototypes without over-engineering them as finished products.

Agile hardware · Recorded webinar

Accelerating hardware through modularity and digital twins

How modular architectures, interface contracts and simulation help teams iterate without rebuilding the entire system.

  • Modularity
  • Digital twins
  • Iterative validation

This approach confirmed the value of working in modules and opened up useful avenues for going further with simulation.

Glossary

The vocabulary of deeptech innovation

Short definitions so that management, R&D and partners speak the same language.

TRL (Technology Readiness Level)

A nine-level technology maturity scale, from observing a principle (TRL 1) to operation in real conditions (TRL 9). Innowide works between TRL 2 and 6.

Technological deadlock

A technical obstacle that blocks a project until it is removed: a performance to reach, a physical limit, an integration or environmental constraint.

Critical hypothesis

An assumption that, if it proves wrong, undermines the project's viability. It must be tested first, especially if evidence can be obtained early.

Evidence

A result that reduces an uncertainty and enables a decision: a measurement, a test revealing a limit, a comparison between two options, an integration trial.

Prototype (decision-making instrument)

A setup built to answer a specific question: validate a principle, compare two options, measure a performance, reveal a constraint. Its value lies in decisions, not looks.

Agile for Hardware

Applying agile principles (value, feedback, adaptation) to hardware and deeptech projects while adapting the tactics: initial framing before iterating, prototypes designed as decision-making instruments, short disciplinary sprints combined with system-level iterations.
